Sparkplugs
« on: September 09, 2015, 05:22:28 PM »
I was noticing that my Franklin powered Cadet seem to be down on power.  I had Champion REM 38s installed with 160 hours on them.  Mogas for fuel.  After checking mag timing and verifying that the throttle was opening all the way I changed plug to C10 S.  The power is back and the engine is running smoother.  I would like to hear if anyone has any opinions as to the expected life expectancy of sparkplugs in the Franklin engine.   Thanks, Tim

I believe the REJ-38 plugs incorporate a resistor in the center post.  One of the failure modes is a breakdown of this resistor, resulting in higher resistance.  Do the new plugs incorporate resistors?

If the coils in your mags are weak, that could contribute to the difference noted.

Bill,  I do not know if the recently installed plugs have resistors.  They are old/new stock Champion and called for in the Franklin service manual.   Tim
