Culver General Discussion / Re: What Prop do you use
« on: March 18, 2017, 09:50:36 PM »
  Hi Mark,
My unit came with a Sensenwich 70 x 54  I was told it cruised at 130.  I'm still not flying yet but by middle of summer I should be in the air.  Just about to start fabric work.  Buying new will be 5 grand.  I just put one on the Mooney Mite that was $4700.

Jon. It would be nice to have one that could be rented but there is no such animal.
Build one for yourself and spend about $50 grand, then rent it out!

 Hi Tim,
Thanks for answering!  No help but I have downloaded pictures and I also have a fuselage
that I'm using as patterns.  It is winter and I'm getting slower!  I'm rebuilding the tail section now.  Wings are done without fabric and I have a new Franklin 90 HP engine to mount. I'll post as I progress and run into trouble.  Plans would be worth a lot!  Woody

J, if still interested in Dart plans, I know a guy that has a complete set and I think he will let you copy them.  Let me know and I will get you in touch with him.   Woody

Hello everyone,
I'm back working on my Culver and I really need a set of plans or at least the tail section of the fuselage!  Any help would sure be appreciated!  I'm willing to pay if cost is a problem.
My wings are ready for fabric and a little work on the tail section of the fuselage will complete the fuselage. Then I am ready to start putting it back together.

Thanks Joe!
I contacted Tate but the stuff he has, I have also but I could use the plans but he wants over $1000 for his stuff and won't separate.
We are having a big fly in here April 23rd with three bands, aerobatic demo, model airplane demo, craft fair with over 100 vendors and I'll be there raising money for Arkansas Freedom Fund with the Mite.  I emailed Bill but got no response so I did not post.
Come on over, we need Culvers and Mites both to make this a yearly thing.  No charge and we will try to hanger your plane.  Take care  Woody

Culver General Discussion / New old project
« on: March 06, 2016, 05:20:56 PM »
Hello everyone,
I'm way behind with this project after two years of work on a Mooney Mite that is now finished.
I'm looking for plans of the Culver.  My wings are done and ready to cover.  The fuselage is not finished but I'm wanting to get to work on it.  Sometime this month I will bring it back to my place to start back on it.  I have a restored and blueprinted Franklin 90 hp motor waiting to be mounted.
Anyone have a set of plans they don't need or are finished with? Thanks for your help! Woody

Thank you Mark.  Now, if you can find that girl in Dubai to come help ~~~~(ha)
We are already ordering the wood to finish the cowl.  The wings are ready to cover and the engine is ready to mount.  Maybe we can start a Culver air force ~~~      W

Now it's settled.  I'm going to get the Culver by the end of June to bring it in house again and start that slow pace of working on finishing this bird!

Thanks Mark!  I'm really leaning that way.  The Culver would be the only two place I have.
I will approach this next week.  Thanks   W

Culver General Discussion / My Culver project

Boy time passes!  I'm almost finished with the Mooney Mite that I'm doing for the wounded warriors called "Freedom Fund".  I've had a few prods about not working on the Culver project!
Time now for me to focus on another project which is either the Sonerai 2 which is about 90% done or do I start back on the Culver?  They are BOTH pulling on me! As I'm getting older, I don't want to work like I used to so I have a top notch A&P/IA to take the lead.
The Culver has most of the wood work done except the lower cowling and a few small repairs. I have a 0 time 90HP Franklin engine and mount for it.
The Sonerai could be finished and sold to promote faster finishing of the Culver, or I could work on the Culver and let the Sonerai sit.  I must make a decision soon.
Things seem quiet on here so it's time to kick things in gear and start something even if it's wrong.
I'm glad to be back to see what's happening.  Woody

Culver General Discussion / Re: what to use over old varnish
« on: July 27, 2013, 02:51:51 PM »
I would think so ~~ it does not touch fabric or metal so there is no adhesion problems that I know of.  It worked on mine which is all I know.      W

Craig,
With mine I used acetone to knock the varnish down with a scraper.  If the build up is not too much, you can spray another light coat over the old one but it adds weight. With the bottom of fuselage open, turn it on it's side and have at it.

Please tell us where to get this prop.  I'm close to making a choice myself.
Found a light weight starter saving several pounds and Slick mags #4392 will be lighter than the Eisemann also.
