Here is a wooden wing we built over 10 years ago from ALL new spruce.  The one wing panel is almost the entire span of the Culver!  Any ideas of what it is from?

I been busy working on my wings and unfortunately many or most of the butt (90* such as rib to spar) glue joints are loose.  I’m considering removing all the ribs and starting with fresh spars.  I have a few questions to the wing building experts;
1)   Does the Culver wing have any washout?
2)   Were the original wings built in a jig, or does the steel tubing line everything up?
3)   If they used a jig, are there any drawings or old pictures?

Thank you,  Phil

Modifications / Locking Tail Wheel
« on: January 27, 2013, 08:04:28 PM »
I have seen some small non-steering but locking tail wheels used on some aerobatic aircraft.  I realize that the original Culver had a non-steering fully castering tail wheel.  I am working on my project but have never flown a Culver :(.  Would a locking tail wheel be an improvement to fully castering?  Or does the full swivel wheel work just fine?

Cheers,

Phil

Hi Gregory,  What part of Canada are you?  I'm just out of Edmonton and I have the only registered LCA in Canada.  They do come up for sale on Barnstormers and Trade A Plane in either projects (restorations) of completed planes.  If you are close, you can stop in and see my project?

P.S.  if you read through this website, most of your questions will be answered.

Cheers,

Phil

Maintenance and Repair / Wing Holding Jig
« on: December 28, 2012, 11:24:53 AM »
I'm about to fabricate a castoring, steel wing holding jig.  I want both wings to stand vertically and mount into the stock wing holding truss from the fuselage.  There is no point in re-inventing the wheel, so if anyone has any pictures of a successful design that they have made, please post a picture or two.  Thanks for any help!

Modifications / Re: Lycoming O-235
« on: May 18, 2012, 12:12:25 PM »
From the newsletters I have learned that #230, N34776 had a O-235 installed.  It is currently owned by Roger Stuart in Columbus, MT.  I tried to find his phone number to see if he had any documentation on the conversion, but his number is unlisted.  Does anyone have any contact info for Roger? I guess I could go retro and write him a letter?

Thanks,

Modifications / Lycoming O-235
« on: March 29, 2012, 12:25:24 PM »
I would like to install an O-235 in my Culver #333.  I found the STC for the O-290 installation in #410 in the Newsletters section.  Does anyone have a copy of the O-235 STC for N34776 #230?  Also does anyone have a Lycoming mount kicking around for a PQ-8?

Thank you for any help!

I enjoyed reading through the newsletters posted on this great site.  Are more of them available.  If so, how do I purchase or find them?

Thanks,

Culver General Discussion / Original Cadet colors??
« on: March 16, 2012, 06:48:06 PM »
Hi all,

I'm restoring #333 in Sherwood Park, Alberta at airport CEE6.  Too many other projects have got in the way, but I hope to get back to it soon.

Does anyone know what were the original colors and schemes used?

Thanks,
Phil
